pH Changing Makeup
A dive into winky lux's innovations
UNDERSTANDING
pH-CHANGING MAKEUP
pH-changing reacts with your body’s natural pH levels upon application, transforming the pigment in the product into a unique shade for each individual user. This effect is most commonly found in lip and cheek products and stands as a testament to innovation and inclusivity.
UNDERSTANDING THE SCIENCE: THE pH FACTOR
Understanding pH-changing lip balms starts with grasping pH, which measures acidity or alkalinity on a scale of 0 to 14, with 7 being neutral. Skin pH ranges from slightly acidic to neutral, typically between 4.7 and 5.75, varying due to factors like genetics, diet, skincare, and environment. This variability forms the foundation for pH-reactive cosmetics.
WHAT SETS WINKY LUX’S pH MAKEUP APART?
We were an early adopter of pH makeup with our color-changing balms, which are some of our hero products to this day. In particular, Winky Lux’s Flower Balm, ignited the craze for pH-responsive cosmetics. Our recent launch, the Aurora Balm, introduces a deeper mauve color reaction, departing from our usual pink. Building on our expertise in pH color-changing products, we've innovated with colors. In 2019, our Rainbow Balm combined red and orange tints with a pH-changing formula, yielding a cherry hue for lips and cheeks.
With Winky Lux leading the charge, each product tells a story of self-expression—there's always a joy in customization!
