Cailey Darling
My name is Cailey and I was diagnosed with Acute Macular Retinopathy in both of my eyes. The doctors are unsure what triggered it but it could have been a fever, or something auto immune. It causes permanent blind spots in my vision. Due to always seeing the world in a confusing and distorted view, my vision problems triggered chronic migraines.
I was very interested in makeup before my diagnosis. I didn’t want to lose my favorite hobby to my disability so I work hard to find new ways of doing makeup that are more accessible to me. I have been lucky enough to be able to continue to do makeup using extra lighting, magnifying mirrors, magnifying glasses, and makeup brushes that I cut to make shorter in order for me to be able to use them when I am only inches away from the mirror. It takes a lot of time and patience to do my makeup now, which makes it all more rewarding when I really feel like I did a good job.
